What involvement have you had with competitions?: 

I have taken part in Regional, National and International competitions (preparation of test exercises).

Who would you like to thank for their support?: 

I would like to thank Richard Leach, (Thames Valley University), Steven Naughton, (Institute of Technology) and Christion Vokins, (City of Bristol College). Dr David Perkins (Coleg Llandrillo Cymru)

What made you take on this role?: 

To promote excellence in young adults within the field of electronics.

Why do you think WorldSkills is important?: 

It gives a young person the opportunity to excel in their chosen career. It develops the young person to perform to the best of their ability.

What do you enjoy most about your role?: 

Developing and achieving  a worthwhile goal.

How has this year differed to WorldSkills Calgary 2009?: 

There has been a longer time to prepare candidates for regional and national selection.

How are you using this experience in your workplace?: 

I am working on a skills project for City of Bristol College on a wide range of subject areas to promote excellence through competition work. I am also designing new regional and national competitions and acting as a judge.

What do you think being part of this process does for young people?: 

It widens their perspective of the bigger world and helps to develop the person as a whole.

What sets a WS competitor apart from your average young person?: 

Their get up and go – determination to succeed and attention to develop skills.

What would be your message to industry about entering future competitions?: 

Invest in your future, by getting involved in WorldSkills competitions.

What impact will WorldSkills London 2011 have on your industry?: 

It focuses on youth and their ability to produce excellent work through their individual skills. It provides a trade off for future investment for Industry in the future.

What are your personal achievements: 
  • Project managed the building of two houses;
  • Re-built 1972 land rover.
  • Obtaining my MA through part time study.
Something we didn’t know about you...: 

I am learning to ride a motor cycle and plan to across the USA, East to West.
