Are you City & Guilds qualified?:
Yes
What made you take on this role?:

To help raise standards of care in the UK through competition and training. Having the opportunity in training current and future generations of young people to look at Health and Social Care from a slightly different lens and the rewards it can offer, is a privilege for me as an expert.

Why do you think WorldSkills is important?:

They are important because they help to raise standards in care and promote excellence in vocational and practical skills throughout the world. Furthmore, it puts the responsibility on each member country to raise standards in their own country. It also gives experts the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences about best practice, innovative ideas, and training methods.

What do you think being part of this process does for young people?:

For young people it gives them wider choices in life. There is a high quality option for a young person to go to work, learn new skills, go to college and gain a recognised qualification and earn a proper wage. The value of WorldSkills is that it has been put together to develop young people in theirchosen field and develop them as individuals. This is reflected in the fact that as well as developing their technical skills, they will learn other life skills that will put them in good stead for the future.

What sets a WS competitor apart from your average young person?:

I believe that young people that take are part in national and international competitions have a different perspective on life and have a desire to improve life for themselves and the people around them.

What would be your message to industry about entering future competitions?:

I believe the WorldSkills Caring competition will set the standards for the Health and Social Care professional in the future. Furthmore, it will raise the visibility of Health and Social Care throughout the UK and inspire young people to make Health and Social Care their career choice.
