I have been a competitions organiser for national mobile robotics competitions and am a newly appointed training manager.

I would like to thank Middlesex University.

What made you take on this role?: 

To use my knowledge to help improve the level of engineering education in the UK.

Why do you think WorldSkills is important?: 

It acts as a way to showcase practical skills and to give them value.

What do you enjoy most about your role?: 

Passing on my knowledge to enthusiastic young people.

How has this year differed to WorldSkills Calgary 2009?: 

It is too early to say!

How are you using this experience in your workplace?: 

It shows them that their skills are valued and it improves their self confidence.

What do you think being part of this process does for young people?: 

They have the focus and willingness to work very hard and push themselves.

What would be your message to industry about entering future competitions?: 

Help support and promote practical skills and show they have value.

What impact will WorldSkills London 2011 have on your industry?: 

It should raise the profile massively.
