"I have a great deal of admiration for Andrew Blair for his success at WorldSkills 2005 (Autobody Repair gold medal winner). Andrew demonstrated that the UK’s pedigree in autobody repair is of a world-class standard. I will be using him as inspiration to achieve a similar success at WorldSkills 2007."

Profile

Simon's enthusiasm for cars started at an early age. As a child he was fascinated watching his dad repairing his car and was eager to help out in any way he could:

"I am a fanatic when it comes to cars; I enjoy both driving and working on them. Members of my family also enjoy cars and it was a major bonding factor between us when I was growing up."

In preparation for WorldSkills 2007 Simon travelled to Ireland where he worked alongside Ireland's short-listed autobody repair competitors during their WorldSkills Team selection event:

"Working with the Irish competitors was a great learning experience. I found it very beneficial talking to the competitors and watching their problem-solving methods."

Simon hopes that the experience of competing at WorldSkills will benefit him in terms of increasing his maturity and confidence in his trade, and hopes to be working in a supervisory or management position within five years.

In his spare time Simon enjoys going to the gym, cars and fishing.
