"I am very grateful for all the skills, experiences and achievements I’ve acquired through skills competitions. I hope that competing in WorldSkills reflects how serious and dedicated I am to my profession."

Profile

From a young age Philip has always had a great interest in motorbikes and Formula 1 racing, and wanted to pursue a career within the same industry. At college Philip learnt that CNC milling is an important process in the manufacturing of Formula 1 cars and motorbikes:

"What initially got me interested is that CNC machining is used to construct a number of components for Formula 1 cars. The car wheel, wheel studs and parts of the engine are manufactured by using CNC machining."

Philip is excited at the prospect of competing at WorldSkills in Japan and is keen to further experience the Japanese culture to which he has become accustomed at his place of work:

"I think I have a pretty good idea about the culture and I hope my knowledge proves to be an advantage in terms of adjusting quickly to the environment in Japan, allowing me to concentrate fully on the competition."

Philip is certain that the training involved and participation in WorldSkills will benefit his CV and increase his confidence. He recognises that competing in skills competitions has already helped further his career development.

In his spare time Philip enjoys watching football and competing in motocross races.
