Profile

Jonathan enjoys working with his hands and his interest in bricklaying dates back to an early age, when he would help his father who works in the construction industry. Jonathan's father has always provided support and guidance through his training to become a bricklayer.

Jonathan hopes that representing the UK in bricklaying at the WorldSkills Competition will give him experience in coping with responsibility, and that this will in turn be helpful for achieving his future ambitions:

"Although I am very excited about competing at WorldSkills, I realise that representing the UK is a great honour and I must do my country and myself justice. I think the experience of WorldSkills will develop me as a tradesman and will give me the confidence to make my ambition of running my own building firm in the future come true."

Jonathan says he is inspired by people who work hard to achieve success:

"I admire people like Sir Alan Sugar and Sir Richard Branson who show that you can be successful if you are prepared to work for it. I try to emulate that philosophy."

Due to the physical nature of bricklaying Jonathan's preparation for WorldSkills 2007 includes regular visits to the gym to build his strength. He will also work on an intensive training plan with his training manager Michael Burdett.

In his spare time Jonathan enjoys cycling, cars, running and going to the gym.
