Profile

At school Ben was unsure of what he wanted to pursue as a career, but knew he wanted it to be 'hands on' and something that would involve skill and accuracy. By looking at the courses offered by his local college and employment opportunities in his area, Ben soon settled on joinery.

Possessing a natural talent, Ben was encouraged to participate in SkillBUILD's Joinery competition by his personal tutor and he has never looked back.

In preparation for WorldSkills Ben will be working alongside his training manager on a 10 week intensive training programme designed to equip him with the information needed for success. Ben will also conduct a demonstration at the national SkillBUILD final in Birmingham where he will also be a judge at the event.

Ben is fully aware that the level of competition at WorldSkills over the four day period will be both physically and mentally challenging, but he is certain that the experience will be useful for his future:

"I think competing at WorldSkills will give me a great opportunity to move onwards and upwards in my career. The experience will stand me in good stead to one day running my own business. I wish the rest of the UK Team good luck with their training and will be there to offer them support during the competition."

In his spare time Ben enjoys cars, socialising and listening to music.
