These two programmes from Teachers TV, follow the UK team at the 2007 WorldSkills Championships in Japan. Watch as they are pitched against the world’s best practitioners of vocational skills, from bricklaying to beauty therapy, and aim to improve on the three medals won by Britain two years ago. The programmes document the team’s intensive training all the way through to the moment of truth - the medal ceremonies.

The Prime Minister, who was joined by Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills John Denham and Minister for Skills David Lammy met with all 22 team members, alongside apprentices from Westminster Kingsway college, who provided the catering for the event.

This morning (9th November) some of the UK’s most highly skilled young people embarked on the journey of a lifetime, boarding a flight bound for Japan. The team of 22 talented individuals are headed to the 2007 WorldSkills Competition to represent their country at the world’s most prestigious skills event.

The most highly skilled young people in the UK have been selected to form the team for the 2007 WorldSkills competition. The team of twenty-one will be headed to Japan together in November to represent the country in their chosen skills.
