What made you choose this career?: 

Always been interested in engineering and vintage vehicle/ machinery restoration. Started using machine tools whilst volunteering at Crich tramway museum, then I got an apprenticeship.

How did you hear about competitions? : 

R-R Training officer put me forward.

What are your biggest personal achievements so far?: 

The improvements resulting from my training.

What’s your ambition?: 

Develop my skills as far as possible in a broad range of engineering areas.

What are you hoping for by competing for a place at WorldSkills London 2011? : 

Fortune, romance and adventure.

What would you say to other young people considering a vocational career?: 

Do it. University is only worthwhile if you know exactly why you are there and are happy with a huge debt. Vocational training means you earn money and have a useful skill.

What do you think getting involved in international competitions could do for your career?: 

Help me in whatever career move I want to make.
