Completed apprenticeship in 2009 with Porter and Co Builders and Belfast Metropolitan College.
NVQ 2 and 3 in Bricklaying.

Competed in: 

WorldSkills UK Bricklaying (SkillBuild), 2010, Regional winner and national final bronze medal winner.

What made you choose this career?: 

I had an interest in bricklaying from a young age and was offered a job and apprenticeship which I decided to take on.

How did you hear about competitions? : 

My teacher introduced me and encouraged me to compete at the high level and I got more interested in competing the more I found out about it.

What are your biggest personal achievements so far?: 

All my achievements at the SkillBuild competitions.

What’s your ambition?: 

To compete at WorldSkills level and achieve a medal for myself and my country.

What are you hoping for by competing for a place at WorldSkills London 2011? : 

Further improvement in my skills, meeting new faces, seeing more and learning more about being in a WorldSkills competition and building a great reputation.

What do your family and friends think about you competing?: 

They are behind me and support me all the way and help me in any way possible with all of the competition requirements.

What would you say to other young people considering a vocational career?: 

I would give them some advice and information if they wanted it and would encourage them to compete for further competition skills as well as life skills.

What do you think getting involved in international competitions could do for your career?: 

It would create and open bigger windows and challenges for the future in your craft as well as life itself.

Something we didn’t know about you...: 

Big interest in my hobby beef cattle which I show and compete at different shows throughout the year under a lot of pressure and I achieve a lot of success out of this.
