Are you City & Guilds qualified?:
Yes
Competed in:

WorldSkills UK Visual Merchandising finalist 2010

What made you choose this career?:

I went to Windsor to take up French or Media but was sent to the wrong area and came across Visual Merchandising. I had never had any training or classes in Visual Merchandising and over time I managed to excel in it. Now I love it so much it’s become part of my everyday life. But most of my inspiration came from my best friend and my teachers.

How did you hear about competitions? :

I heard about this competition because I knew this was the next step from the competition I had just taken part in so I was amazed when they remembered me and asked me to take part in EuroSkills, it was awesome.

What are your biggest personal achievements so far?:

In life I have quite a few achievements. I’m on my way to completing my goals in life and I consider this an achievement. I also hold a black belt in Wada Ryu Sport Karate.

What’s your ambition?:

My ambition is to be the next big thing. These days hearing such a comment to some people seems unreachable however I will not stop until I get to where I want to be and at the end of the day it’s not about the money or the benefits it’s actually for me about enjoying myself, being myself and giving something back to the world. I am really passionate and would like to become some form of a designer whether it is interior design or a big project designer or maybe even a stylist. I get butterflies in my stomach when coming up with new ideas or even drawing them. I eat sleep and drink window design and fashion.

What do your family and friends think about you competing?:

I have had the up-most support from my family they mean the world to me. If it wasn’t for my mum I probably wouldn’t be where I am today she prolonged the course and in a way did me the biggest favour of my life. She has changed my life and my dad’s crazy ideas just add to my methods of madness and he has inspired me to do so much, they are good people probably the best actually. I wouldn’t change my parents  for a slush puppy and their my favourite drinks! My friends are so pleased for me the college girls and especially 1 person his name is Dayle Fusion. He completely changed my outlook on life he too is an amateur clothes designer; he has well and truly made me the designer I am today. And Lawrence has been a great help too he really is so supportive. and I would also like to class my college lecturer Sue Leadbeater as a friend she has helped me pretty much every step of the way and has believed in me 100% even when my ideas seemed crazy.

What would you say to other young people considering a vocational career?:

GO FOR IT!! Don’t let anyone hold you back from where you want to be!!!! and to not use where your from or what You look like stop you from doing your thing you live once life is far too short and there is not one day I would wish time to go any faster even when I am at work.

What do you think getting involved in international competitions could do for your career?:

I would like to think it is really going to help me venture out into the world. Because I think I have a lot to offer the world in terms of designs and new shapes so hopefully some recognition would be marvellous. It would be a real privilege to work with some top people I mean there are some superb window designers out their however one day I hope to be one of them.

Something we didn’t know about you...:

I have a very contagious laugh im flamboyant and ostentatious and im not afraid to speak my mind I also like to cut shapes on the dance floor. I have a slogan, Kirsty Hoadley – Instant like smash potato (don’t ask!)
