WorldSkills UK Graphic Design, 2010, Silver medal winner
I have been interested in doing graphic design since the age of 14 (GCSEs). It was one of the first times in school that I had been noticed to have a natural talent and my motivation grew from then, to the passion I have today.
My tutor in 2008 advised me to compete the next time round, and I thought this would be the best method to strive excellence and up my standards to the best of my abilities. Even when finishing, this will be a life- time once chance experience and I would never give up this chance.
I have set myself goals every step of the way for nearly 7 years and have successfully achieved those within graphic design. That is to consistently improve, as one can never stop learning.
My ambition is to get the very best out of everything I do in life and graphic design. I want to make a difference in how people view this discipline and how important it is. My ambition is to always learn more from people who are most knowledgeable.
I am hoping to do my very best through applying all the knowledge provided by my trainers and winning a place in Team UK for WorldSkills. I want to get the most out of everything given to me and have done this so far.
They support me throughout, especially my family – they are extremely proud. This motivates me and makes me strive to do better and succeed. Family and friends are the ones who make you the person you are today and you always need them by your side for motivation in general.
Don’t even think twice – go for it at the best of your abilities and when you’re heading towards achieving an aim/goal, create a new aim to strive for. Consistently developing = achieving perfection.
It will make me the best person I can be:
Employers thrive on these candidates. It will also make future work so much easier and allow you to start higher in the working ladder since you have already been trained to the full potential in all key areas to create a world class graphic designer and individual.
I grew up on the island of Cyprus because of my father’s job and through this it make me multi-cultural and as enabled me to experience many things that some may never get the chance to experience. I now have friends from all over the world, which has broadened my experiences and knowledge and how I see the world around me. This also developed my awareness of others and bonding with others from completely different backgrounds; to receive that knowledge and feeling can only be described when one has stretched out and made choices.
I am in this for the buzz and consistently want to improve no matter the challenge or where I am in the world, as a person and a graphic designer and the people around me are what makes the journey most enjoyable and worthy.
